The Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute recently released the findings from a year-long study titled Fireground Contaminant Exposure Control (CEC) and Health & Safety Officer (HSO) Continuing Education. This study was completed in conjunction with the University of Maryland, Department of Fire Protection Engineering, and was funded by the United States Fire Administration. The findings from this study are beneficial to HSOs responsible for the development, implementation, and management of CEC policies. The study also outlines current gaps in knowledge that need to be addressed to further efforts in reducing firefighter occupational illnesses. Access the report here.
